On Sunday 12th April, the Coronation Street Experience hosted a unique celebration as Walkies in Weatherfield brought together more than 200 dogs from across the UK. The special event marked National Pet Day, giving four-legged fans the chance to explore one of Britain’s most iconic TV sets – with £2,000 raised from doggy tickets going to the Dogs Trust.
A Tail-Wagging Takeover of the Cobbles
Open to the public on weekends since 2015, the Coronation Street Experience has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors – but this was a one-of-a-kind occasion where dogs took centre stage.
Guests travelled from far and wide, from as far afield as Edinburgh and Falkirk in Scotland, all the way to Somerset, to enjoy a unique day out with their pets. From posing outside the Rovers Return to playing outside Roy’s Rolls, the famous Weatherfield locations became a playground for pooches.
Dogs strutted their stuff along the cobbles, soaked up the atmosphere outside the Street Cars and enjoyed plenty of photo opportunities – making it a memorable experience for owners and pets alike.
Exclusive Treats and Charity Support
To mark the occasion, visitors could pick up limited-edition Weatherfield Woofs merchandise from the Experience shop, including:
Importantly, all proceeds from dog tickets were donated to Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity – helping to support dogs in need across the country.
Celebrity Pups Return to the Cobbles
Among the many furry guests was Boris, a familiar face to TV audiences as the winner of ITV’s This Morning ‘Pup Idol’. Boris made the journey from Portsmouth to reunite with fellow finalists from last year’s competition.
A Unique Experience for Dog Lovers
Walkies in Weatherfield proved to be a huge success, offering a one-of-a-kind opportunity for dog lovers to experience the magic of Coronation Street in a completely new way.
